I have had this cable for a few month and use it to charge my iPhone in my pocket with a battery pack. It retracts well, but the iPhone end of the flat cable is already breaking where it connects to the iPhone plug. If I didn't use it in my pocket, it probably would last much longer so I still gave it 4 stars.
